We are enabling a marine technology sector in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly with Research Development and Innovation at the heart of its approach. We want to help businesses adapt and thrive, securing and optimising their business for the long term. Through comprehensive RD&I, Marine-i will help businesses develop their ideas to product demonstration and commercialisation.

Over the next 20 years, marine technology will be transformed as a new wave of innovation allows us to exploit the full potential of our oceans in ways that were previously not possible.

Marine technology will evolve to encompass a wide range of marine development including:

  • Propulsion and powering
  • Energy management
  • Smart ship technology
  • Offshore renewable energy
  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Advanced materials
  • Robotics
  • Autonomous systems
  • Human computer interaction
  • Advanced communications
  • Sensors
  • Big data analytics
  • Sustainable energy generation
  • Carbon capture and storage
  • Deep ocean mining

Bringing these new technologies to market will demand new ways of thinking and Marine-i will be pivotal in ensuring new levels of collaboration across different scientific and technical disciplines.

We are determined to play a significant part in creating the sustainable marine industries of the future. This will ensure that Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly remain at the heart of the marine technology sector over the decades ahead.
